On March 19, 1975, Wolodymyr P. Tyshchenko was born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn to Dr. Wolodymyr P. and Barbara E. Tyshchenko. As a young man growing up in Plandome, Long Island, he was not only academically gifted, but an exceptional athlete, who excelled in multiple sports. In 1997, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania, where he focused his studies on formal logic. In 2002, he earned his Juris Doctor degree from Brooklyn Law School.
Although he initially practiced law in New York, a place he loved deeply for his entire life, he spent the bulk of his career practicing law in chosen home, New Jersey. In 2009, Vlad had the good fortune of joining the firm of Caruso Smith Picini. Initially, his practice was primarily focused on representing unions and union members, especially members of New Jersey’s law enforcement community, ultimately, he represented clients in almost every kind of case imaginable. But, Vlad was at his best when representing underdogs.
Throughout his career he was a consummate professional with an astoundingly meticulous attention to detail and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. He quickly became an expert in numerous fields when he believed it necessary to represent his clients. Vlad was generous with his time and advice; and, he mentored many attorneys, who have all gone on to be excellent attorneys themselves. Vlad was a fearless advocate for his clients, whose interests he represented tirelessly and relentlessly; and, he took great pride in zealously representing criminal defendants and law enforcement officers with equal vigor. Vlad was also a skilled negotiator and an amazing dealmaker. Until the end, Vlad was devoted not only to his clients, but also to his dear friend and law partner, Timothy R. Smith.
Tragically, on February 20, 2024, just as he was poised to begin a new chapter in his life and career, Vlad died suddenly of a heart attack. His family, his friends, his firm, and his clients mourn his loss.
